36 Days of Halloween - 1985: Re-Animator

Based on H.P. Lovecraft's story of a young medical genius who discovers a serum that brings the dead back to life: Herbert West, a brilliant but disturbing young medical student, is obsessed with brain death. He becomes convinced that he has developed a serum that will rejuvenate the dead. When the serum doesn't quite work as expected and a jealous professor steals the formula, wackiness ensues. This was a fun but *very* campy film that never really takes itself particularly seriously. It's not remotely scary, and even the "gross" scenes are mostly absurd and kind of funny. Herbert is played with an amazing amount of intensity by Jeffrey Combs. Also, as friend of the Blog, Mark, points out, the jealous professor looks an awful lot like John Kerry.
